Rally Bulgaria July 2008
Watch it from the Villa!
From 11 to 13 of July Borovets will become the head quarters of Rally Bulgaria 2008. The Rally has a 38 year history with its first being in 1970. The shakedown will be held on 10 July and the ceremonial start will be in the evening of 11 July.
The Rally has an itinerary totaling 736.86 km. In 2007 over 250,000 people watched Dimitar LLiev win with a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX.
One leg of the Rally goes directly in front of the Villa Stresov and spectators have a wonderful view from the wall surrounding the Villa.
Bulgarian Travel Tips
Bulgaria is a great place to visit, but travel to any other country requires some preparation. Also, knowledge of local Bulgarian customs and practices can help avoid embarassment, and make your trip more fun.
Tips for Driving TO – and – IN Bulgaria
Entering Bulgaria your vehicle will be registered with a special "visa tag" or carnet de passage which must be presented on leaving.
Upon arrival in Bulgaria an entrance fee is payable on all motor vehicles (car/van US$10; minibus seating 8 or more US$60), plus a disinfection fee (car US$2; van/minibus US$4) - though EU citizens are exempt from the former charge.
Bulgarian Speed Limits: 50 km/h in populated areas, 90 km/h outside populated areas, 120 km/h on highways.

Summer Fun on Lake Iskar
 Lake Iskar is Bulgaria's largest inland lake stretching for 15kms along the main Sofia-Borovets road. Being 30kms south of Sofia, it means that the lake is a magnet for tourists, particularly in summer time. In summer and particularly on weekends, the sides of the Samokov-Sofia road will be lined with tourists having picnics, enjoying swimming and boating etc.
With private coves and bays, you will have many choices when trying to find a private area to spend a few hours with family and friends. The most popular restaurant has a large terrace where you can enjoy the fabulous cuisine and gaze out over the breathtaking view of Lake Iskar.

Banitsa (Phyllo Pie) . . . a famous traditional Bulgarian dish eaten at any meal
Banitsa (pronounced BAH-nit-sa) is a traditional Bulgarian pastry prepared by layering a mixture of whisked eggs and pieces of sirene (white cheese) between phyllo pastry and then baking it in an oven.
Banitsa is served for breakfast with plain yogurt. It can be eaten hot or cold. Another popular version is banitsa with spinach (spanachena banitsa).
